f126 - Ljasdahl Vault

This hall is obviously intended for ritual bathing, as there are a number of drain holes in the floor. Although empty, the dripping water indicates that it is still in use.

Above a cold fireplace hangs a large cauldron containing the remains of a rather poor meal.

You see a crude hole hacked into the floor and an unmistakable smell pervades the area… you have found the latrine.

In front of you stands a statue of black stone — a faceless male figure. In all probability it is an image of the god without a name.
Do you

  • Touch the statue?
  • Smash the statue?
  • Pass by?

[NAME] feels somehow strange and notices something has changed. The god without a name has shown mercy!

[NAME] feels a tremendous stabbing pain and immediately pulls back.

With violent blows you smash the blasphemous idol of the god without a name until there remains nothing but shattered pieces of stone.

Suddenly, dozens of small crossbow bolts shoot up from the floor!

[NAME] is hit by the bolts and suffers some fairly serious wounds.

Along the corridor wall sit half a dozen cultists dressed completely in long, black robes. As soon as they notice you, they jump up to attack while one of them tries to flee down the hallway.

A steep ladder placed precariously in a narrow shaft leads down.
Do you want to climb down?

You climb down, one by one, taking great care not to shift the unstable ladder.

There is a lever on the wall here.
Do you pull the lever?

You don’t hear a sound when you pull the lever.
Strange!

Oops!
You nearly stepped on a trap door.

Suddenly, a pit opens up beneath your very feet and you drop into a narrow shaft. With rising speed you slide down the smooth-sided tunnel, until you finally reach level ground again.

The chest contains a large black crystal resting delicately on a bed of night-black velvet. The crystal fairly emanates evil.
Do you want to crush the crystal?

How are you going to destroy the crystal?

  • Smash it to bits
  • Cast “Destructibo”
  • Cast “Ignifaxus”

The crystal withstands the blow without even a scratch. What’s worse, the energy of the blow rebounds and wounds [NAME].

Unfortunately, the spell fails and nothing changes… other than the fact that the crystal strikes back and wounds [NAME].

Slowly, hairline fractures form on the surface of the crystal. As it shatters apart into innumerable fragments, the aura of evil dissipates and nothing remains but a bunch of shards in a ragged old chest.

A soft clicking noise shows that the lever did have some kind of function.

Only because you have some sort of sixth sense for danger do you notice a pit trap in front of you. You carefully pick your way around the obstacle without anyone being hurt.

[NAME] and [NAME] plunge into a pit trap. The narrow walls of the pit dampen the blow, but they did fall some 15 paces.

[NAME] plunges into a pit trap. The narrow walls of the pit dampen the blow, but [NAME] did fall some 15 paces.

As if from a great distance, you can hear desperate cries for help…

A dark pit in front of you and the helpless whimpering that reaches your ears raises a chill down your spine.
Do you attempt a rescue?

Pity you have no rope with you. That makes a rescue attempt impossible.

One rope isn’t enough for a pit of 15 paces depth. You’ll need a second rope or a wand spell to reach the bottom of the pit.

You lower the ropes down the pit until you feel someone tugging. Slowly, your companions climb out.

A ladder goes up from here.
Do you use it?

A lever sticks out from the wall.
Do you

  • Ignore the lever
  • Pull it down sharply?
  • Pull it and then hold it in place?

The lever snaps back.

Who will hold the lever down?

[NAME] has trouble keeping the lever down.

You are standing in front of a forbidding altar covered with cryptic symbols in a strange language that you don’t recognize. On the altar, there is a statuette of a faceless man, lying prone.
Do you destroy this altar to the god without a name?

With your improvised tools, it takes quite a while to damage the idol and obliterate all the blasphemous symbols. While you are at it, a small black figurine, maybe a span tall, falls out of a cavity: the faceless man again.
Do you want to keep the figurine as proof of your victory?

  • Yes
  • No, we’ll smash it

With powerful blows, you destroy this image of the God Without a Name as well.

Suddenly, [NAME] discovers a secret door in the wall.

After a while, [NAME] even manages to get it open.

Unfortunately, [NAME] is unable to open it.

[NAME] cannot open it. Adding insult to injury, a poisoned needle shoots out and wounds [NAME].

You leave this unfriendly place and continue your journey towards [NAME] tired, but well satisfied.
