1[N] Mandrake - 1[N] Putrid Toadstool - 1[N] Brandy - 1[N] Ilmenleaf - 1[N] Menchal - 1[N] Intoxicumber

Take ye the mandrake and leave the POWER suffuse it. Grind ye then the magickal mandrake with yon putrid toadstool and pour over their dust the al’cohol. Next, rub ye to dust the ilmenleaf, the menchal, and the intoxicumber, admix them all well, and set ye the brew upon a blazing fyre. Once the juice has flown, form ye the remainder to small pills, which shall protect ye from the vampyre’s evil eye.

The Feylamia are creatures of the Pardona. They walk under the cover of darkness, but can be recognized by their shadows. When visible, they can hold any thinking creature by their gaze and take their victim’s form. They can be wounded by silver weapons, but can only be killed by the light of the moon.

The intoxicumber increases the strength of [Hero]’s muscles, but at the same time, it quite obviously impairs his/her mind.

[Hero] eats an intoxicumber, but there’s no effect.

[Hero] chews on the pill for a while, but there’s no apparent effect.
“I think I haven’t digested the last one yet.”

“Let’s see what it tastes like,” says [Hero] and pops one of the pills into his/her mouth.
“Heavy going, this,” [Hero] declares after chewing it for a while.

The strange lump provides [N]Life[N][Hero] and %[N]Astral4D.

The mushroom provides [N]Life[N][Hero] and %[N]Astral4D.

Are you absolutely certain you want to use the amulet to tell the magicians they can stop empowering the shrinking spell?

Skillfully, [Hero] bores the quill into and through the plant stalk.
“There you go! One blowgun!”

“You know, you can turn a blowgun into something else entirely.” [Hero] starts working on the blowgun with a beetle claw, and finally, holds up a flute.

[Hero] actually manages to fix the spider silk to a forked twig.
“Well now, it is a very nice catapult if I do say so myself.”

These are the collected letters of one Amnibia to a certain sailor named Kasturn. Reading them would take several hours.
Do you want to take the time?

All the letters are about the deep love Amnibia feels for her Kasturn.
Unfortunately, he spends most of his time on the high seas, and she is waiting for him on land, full of hopes and worries.

The lad appears to have cast quite a spell on the poor girl, and the knowledge you glean from his letters, his powers of seduction, may help you in the practice of this art quite a bit, too.

Boatswain’s Certificate
The owner of this document is capable, after more than ten years of service on a ship of war, to fulfill the duties of a boatswain.
These capabilities were conferred by several years of service as an able-bodied seaman, proven knowledge of navigational procedures, and several months duty as helmsman.

Greetings to you, noble Toranor, in the name of Borbarad.
I have but recently met with my friend “Liscom of Fasar” and conferred with him about the sudden demise of our “new master” of transmutations, “Zurbaran of Frigorn”. Unfortunately, we have not been able to find an answer on why the ritual failed with him, so continue to be watchful in your experiments.

We do however surmise that he had been experimenting with fertile beings, creations that had only been possible for our “ancient master” Borbarad with his mosquitos and the elf Pardona with the harpyies.
The only good news is that we found the recipe for the tincture in Zurbaran’s rooms. I am sending along a copy of it.
May the dogs refrain from biting you and the daemons refrain from leaving their Spheres.
Abu Terfas

Hello, T.
As usual, I won’t mention any names in this letter in case it falls into the wrong hands. I am still not certain that the way you have chosen is the right one, but I shall assist you in any way I can nonetheless.
I have been informed you are experimenting with dogs - and other “creatures.” I could help you find new experimental subjects… and I do not mean more dogs.

I have come across a peculiar fellow you could take into your household, and who could procure them for you. You will not be able to use their heads once he is finished with them, though. But, that should be of no consequence given the nature of your experiments.

[Hero] puts the torch to the tome of black magic, which vanishes in fire and smoke.
“It’s a devil’s work, this, and it deserves only to be destroyed,” [Hero] declares.

“Blasphemous filth! Books like this one deserve to be burned,” says [Hero] as he puts the torch to the tome.

[Hero] sets fire to the tome with - torch.
“We might have been able to make use of that later,” muses[Hero].

The buds are still working.

You pick a few buds off the kajubo brush and deal them out. You notice no effect when you eat them, but a few moments later, they kick in, and you don’t need to breathe.

[Hero] picks some buds off the kajubo brush, and after [Hero]’s eaten them, their effect becomes apparent.

You put the glowstick into the round recess on the glass pyramid, but there’s no apparent effect.

a greenish

an orange colored

You put the glowstick into the round recess on the glass pyramid. Suddenly, the water begins to boil, and both items radiate a harsh white light. Finally, things calm down, and the two glass objects are glowing with light.

[Hero] climbs along the corridor for a bit before [Hero] wedges the flask containing the explosive fluid into a recess where an air bubble has formed. Then, [Hero] lights the fuse and scrambles back.
The shockwaves of the explosion drop!2.

Our sisters are a jolly bunch,
On verdant banks they’re found;
The two of us do weep all year,
Our limbs droop to the ground.

There is a thing which rises high,
A picture on its side,
Made from stone and not a house
Protects the town from nigh.

A man was struck to death ‘ere,
Was broken skull and bone,
There was a great lament to hear,
’Cause of the violent stone.

Here I stand, wait year by year,
With legs wet by the bank,
It’s pitiful indeed, hear, hear,
And rarely one will thank.

Hard effort’s spoil!

The estate is where you’ll find it.

A place concealed by the basis of heat.

Seven parts to be considered.

Choose the right path.

7th of Travia in the 740th year following the Fall of Bosparan

I have seen and heard about a lot of things, but the sort of elven magic Mandara is practicing is totally unknown to me. Jergan only laughed when I told him. He is one of the best magicians I have ever known, but one not-so-fine day, his blasted arrogance will be the death of him…

12th of Travia, 740 F.B.

… a decisive breakthrough: Yanis has survived the passage. I have grown so accustomed to having the dog around, I would have sorely missed her. The poles were just five feet apart, and yet the dog would have been torn apart in the outer dimensions if she failed…

12th of Travia, 740 F.B.

… but now, Lysira is gone without any trace as well. By now I’m quite certain Mandara is behind this. I have set Yanis to guard her; she will wake me if the elf leaves her hut…

13th of Travia, 740 B.F.

… and during the break-in, I trembled as I have never done before. Lysira has a grievous wound on her neck, and she has lost a lot of blood. I am hiding her at my place until she regains consciousness.
I wonder who this Mandara really is and what’s the meaning of all this? And, what she will do once she finds out her victim has escaped?!

15th of Travia, 740 B.F.

… Lysira woke up, and even Jergan had to admit he was fooled by Mandara. He was shaking with rage, for his vanity won’t allow him to admit any woman’s superiority no matter how beautiful she is. There will be a meeting tonight, and there the dignitaries of this town shall decide what to do about this brute that feeds on elvish blood…

12th of Boron, 740 B.F.

… the preparations are finally complete. We have equipped ourselves with weapons of silver, and Jergan has prepared some magical amulets… he looks much older now than he actually is.
Lysira has developed an antidote to the Feylamia’s gaze. May the Twelve have mercy on us should it fail to work! Let’s hope Mandara doesn’t get suspicious at the last moment. This will be the night…

22nd of Boron, 740 B.F.

… ten days have passed since Mandara was slain. The corporation had the collapsed tomb rebuilt for her funeral, and the sarcophagus has been sealed with Jergan’s magic charms.
He, unfortunately, has been buried now as well. Everyone who is anyone in this town was present at the rites. A black lotus was planted on the grave as a remembrance to the hero of this dire night… and yet I cannot shake a feeling of dread. It was all too easy…

23rd of Boron, 740 B.F.

Lysira read the preceding entry and laughed, but there was no joy in her laughter, only bitterness: Jergan is dead, seven citizens were literally torn apart by Mandara - seven, a magical number - and yet I say it went too smoothly! But I know Lysira isn’t comfortable with it either. For today, she presented me with her new creation: a magical cape copying the Feylamia’s powers. The wearer is made invisible, even to elvish vampires, but can see everything himself - especially elven vampires even in their magical cloak of invisibility…

8th of Hesinde, 740 B.F.

… Lysira has returned to her people. Not for good, thanks be to Hesinde. I could not bear the thought of continuing my life without her.
Meanwhile, I have returned to my work on movement magic. I have hidden the poles inside large mirrors, which is not an ideal place for them. There needs to be a magical presence to stabilize the magic mirrors, but, well, you shouldn’t expose the common folk to too many things they do not understand…

13th of Hesinde, 740 B.F.

… when tonight, during the new moon, I was wandering about under the cover of the Feylamia cloak. Mandara really did fool us all; for I have seen her! She either mesmerized Niamh or even took her place! I shall find out, and once Lysira has returned, we shall finally destroy this monster…

15th of Hesinde, 740 B.F.

Lysira has brought back a crystal that can trap and store the light of the moon. Moonlight kills the feylamia, and knowing that now, I notice for the first time that all the disappearances of elves occurred when Mana had veiled her face. We shall not repeat Jergan’s mistake: there’ll be no army, just Lysira and me, and we will wait for a full moon. That leaves us only two weeks to prepare…

5th of Peraine, 740 B.F.

… and after more than three months, I have finally found the strength to face life again. The cost of my victory over the Feylamia was far too high: It wasn’t just our unborn child that died along with Lysira that fateful night, but a part of me. And, for a long time, life seemed to have lost all meaning to me. We didn’t even get a chance to use the green elves’ Moon-Light… Mandara killed Lysira before she could open it.

5th of Peraine, 740 B.F.

- I know it sounds ridiculous, but only because she paid me no attention was I able strike her with my silver dagger. I am not certain Mandara is really dead even now, but I have magically sealed the tomb, and the amulets hold the feylamia inside her sarcophagus. If she is still alive, may she suffer from my deeds in there as I suffer from her’s here…

18th of Praios, 764 B.F.

Many years have passed, and I have turned into an old hermit. I had almost forgotten about this diary.
A short time after my last entry, I had found Mandara’s hideaway. It is down in the sewers, and quite contrary to my expectations, it is not a dank hole, but carefully constructed and comfortably furnished.

3rd of Phex, 767 B.F.

After Yanis found her way into Boron’s Halls, too, I have moved down here permanently so I can pursue my research without distraction. My masterpiece must be the hall of mirrors which opens innumerable doors into different worlds. Who knows? Perhaps I shall find a better one than this among them one day…

Apparently, the druidess has started by listing the rune signs literally in the order they appear. For following, there is a passage explaining the importance of the correct interpretation of the seven runes’ order and their placement on the wand.
Only then did she write down her interpretation of them:

The rune wand is invested with a domination spell which enables the user to control the power of the created chimaeras. Probably to prevent misuse, the demon master has put a limit on the control powers conferred by the wand. It severely limits the magical powers of the hybrids, but it doesn’t completely negate them.

On activation, it creates a spell circle within which they can be controlled. The willpower of the hybrids is not affected by this, so only a particularly mighty mage - which no doubt held true for Borbarad - can bend them to his will.

“I am severely weakened by now and can hardly stand on my own two feet. The disastrous search for the ‘book’ has claimed so many lives already, and now Ingerimm appears to have condemned me to a gruesome fate. After hiding from the orc intruders in this hidden room, I have to recognize that I forgot to take the key with me and I cannot leave the room again without outside help.

I have had a lot of time to think and have come to the conclusion that the ‘book’ should be destroyed before it can wreak even more havoc. To reach it, the horned one’s questions must be answered. I cannot remember the exact sequence, but only two of them may be answered with ‘yes.’ I do hope this text will reach the right hands and will not condem its readers to a grisly end as well.
Radomil”

“Greetings, Radomil.
I forgot to mention that you should be careful with the ‘book.’ Best you bring it to me unopened.
K.”

“My subjects get increasingly restive. But, I am making progress with the mystery. Tonight, I visited the statue with Nombosch. He answered the first question with yes, and the statue incinerated him with a beam of fire from its eyes. I put his remains… ”

“The orcs in this area behave in a very peculiar way.
More and more, I can see their leaders display remarkable cunning while the common troops are as stupid as ever. One of the leaders even addressed me in Bosparan just a while back. Would you believe it? Watch out for them.
Abelmir”

“I greet you, Radomil.
I am pleased to see you have finally found entry to the ancient passageways. But, beware of the traps when you go further.”

“Watch out for Manresh. He is far too clever for it to be natural.
K.”

The document doesn’t contain anything remarkable.

f has been treated with poison.

[Hero] isn’t carrying anything in his/her right hand that could be treated with poison.

That is only for use in a fight.

The tome appears to be radiating magical energy.

Please! There’s no way anyone could eat that!

[Hero] doesn’t have any item to light.

Hmmm - that’s good!

The break that invigorates!

Nothing left, I’m afraid.

Straight from the ground, it’s not a herb fit to eat!

I do advise against chewing poisonous herbs.

[Hero] feels amazingly strong all of a sudden.

The four-leaf loneberry provides [N]Life[N][Hero].

[Hero] is mentally strengthened.

[Hero] moves a lot more smoothly all of a sudden.

The whirlweed provides [N]Life[N][Hero].

[Hero]’s is increased by [N]Points.

[Hero]’s is decreased by [N]Points.

The healing potion returns of [Hero]’s Life[N].

[Hero] has barely swallowed the miracle potion when all his/her complaints disappear.

For the next 24 hours, [Hero] will regenerate much better.

After drinking the magic potion, [Hero]’s astral energy is increased by [N].

Unfortunately, this has no effect at all.

The potent magic potion regenerates all of [Hero]’s astral energy.

[Hero] is not longer ill.

Do you want to transfer a recipe or a different document?

I’m afraid [Hero] doesn’t have a book to transfer the recipe to.

Allow me to bring to your attention the fact that the recipe book is empty.

Copy which recipe exactly?

Copy which document exactly?

This recipe is already in the book of recipes!

This document is already in the notice book!

[Hero] carefully copies the recipes.

[Hero] carefully copies the documents.

“No, I won’t transfer these books. What’s the point? In a notice book there ought to be notices and a book of recipes should contain recipes,” [Hero] refuses.

Actually, both books are already equivalent in content.

Look up which recipe?

Look up which document?

The recipe for F has been transferred to the recipe book. Do you want to throw away the original now?

f has been transferred to the notice book. Do you want to throw away the original now?

That might be possible if [Hero] actually had a recipe.

That might be possible if [Hero] actually had a document.

Is [Hero] going to write with his/her fingers or what?

“There’s really no need to transfer this to the notice book,” [Hero] says.

“I won’t write till my fingers bleed,” [Hero] refuses emphatically.

Hey, that’s a bad idea! Or would you like to become a forger?

I’d really like to see you try using r with #n. Should be good for a laugh.

All right. Let’s have a look at what we’re going to burn, then.

Personally, I don’t think it would be particularly clever to set fire to r.

f has gone up in smoke.

There’s a tremendous bang as [Hero] is caught in the explosion of the Hylailic fire.

[Hero] is unable to use anything at this point in time.

Delicious, this healing potion…
But wait, what’s that, ah, feeling?
Suddenly, a horrible pain shoots through [Hero]’s entire body.
Poison!

The four-leaf loneberry was old and spoiled, causing a decrease of [N]Life[N][Hero].

The fire powder is too old and wet to be of any use.

The book is written in a script unknown to you, but it does radiate a terrible feeling of oppression.

The book is about the creation of Chimaeras and Hybrids. That’s not of interest to you, so you close the book and put it in your load.

The book is bound in blackened dwarven hide and contains only blank pages. “Obviously the entries are written in invisible ink,” [Hero] says.

You open the oversized book bound in cave dragon skin, but it’s written in Zelemya Glyphs which none of you can translate. However, you browse a bit through the pictures of the different demons before you close it.

The book is written in Bosparano and deals with witchery and black magic.

This book is a reference work on many common domination spells. Specifically, it deals with “Bambaladam”, “Horriphobus” and “Somnigravis”.

The book is very worn and written in Olde-Goldencoastic. None of you is capable of translating it, so you put the book back into your load.

This is a highbrow book that expounds on otherworldly Planes of Existence, the Worlds Aside of the Faerie, and modern theories of the Spheres. Furthermore you find a lot of hints about the spells “Blood [Hero] Furor”, “Heptagon” and “Transversalis”.

[Hero] chews the gulmond leaves, but apart from his/her giving a passable impression of a cow, nothing happens!

And who do you want doused with the stuff?

[Hero] screams in pain when the yellow acid bites his/her skin.

[Hero] is convulsing in pain under the influence of the black lotus.

The bane dust covers [Hero] and lowers 1 astral energy.

The bane dust covers 2, but doesn’t lower astral energy energy any further… there wasn’t any to be lowered in the first place.

The green mist of the miasthmatic shrouds 2.

“Oh no, thank you, but no! I am not going to drink that poison, no way!”

Drink
