It looks extremely risky, but you could chance an escape.
Do you want to:
Just barge out on deck since you’re bound to be seen any second anyway
Behave like regular sailors doing their jobs up on deck… at first
Sneak out on deck and hope none of the sailors looks in your direction
Climb back down
[Hero] puts his/her weight against the bars of the hatch which flies open and slams to the deck with a loud bang. You scramble up and out. Someone yells right away, and already the sailor between the masts has seen you.
What are you going to do?
Confront him
Run to the rails and jump overboard
You reach the rails before the first sailors can reach you and dive into the water.
You have no time to lose, so [Hero] fights the sailor with unrestrained fury. Still, it’s[Hero], who manages to wound him critically in the end.
By now, the entire ship knows you’ve escaped. As you’re standing in the middle of the deck under the mainmast, a swarm of marines charges this way from the bow, sailors climb down the rigging and the officers shout orders from the stern.
Do you:
[Hero] fights the sailor with unrestrained fury and finally wounds him critically.
However, the fight took up precious time. A swarm of marines is charging this way from the bow, sailors are climbing down the rigging and the officers are shouting orders from the stern.
Do you:
Cut the ropes around the mast
Flee toward the ship’s stern
[Hero] takes the sailor’s dagger and hacks through the ropes holding the shrouds.
The entire rigging start to flap in the wind. Some sailors manage to hold onto the rigging, but the others hit the deck along with the sails and crossbeams in one gigantic mess.
Do you:
Without any problems, you reach the stern and make your way to one of the stairways leading to the quarterdeck. You’ve almost reached the top when one of the helmsmen appears above you. To avoid losing any more time, [Hero] risks the sailor’s cutlass, rams his/her shoulder into the man and throws him overboard.
You have reached the quarterdeck and have a chance to get a grasp of the situation.
The ship is towing a small rowing boat behind on a long cable. The ship’s officers appear to have a lot of respect for your fighting abilities, and they’re giving you a wide berth. The first sailors and marines, on the other hand, have reached the stairs.
Do you:
[Hero] has reached the quarterdeck and takes a good look at the situation.
The ship is towing a small rowing boat behind on a long cable. The ship’s officers are hesitant at first, but when they realize there’s only the one opponent, they draw their weapons. Meanwhile, the first sailors and marines have reached the stairs.
Do you:
Run to the stern and jump into the water near the ship’s boat
Attack the officers
When [Hero] starts working on the cables, the officers gather what courage they possess and attack. In doing so, they block your escape route to the stern.
Do you:
Face them in combat
Flee to the rails and jump into the sea
Just when you’ve overcome the last of the villains, the sailors come charging up the stairs. You can only escape to the stern now.
Both sides fight with a courage born of desperation. When the sailors get into the act as well, the outcome is decided.
You manage to take the boatswain into the next world with you, although I imagine that won’t be much of a consolation.
Apparently, the officers are quite happy with the decision. Undisturbed, you reach the rails and jump into the sea.
The officers are standing idly by while you cut the ropes. But, when the crossbeams come crashing down onto the deck smashing everything in their paths, they wake up and get themselves somewhere safe!
Now, do you:
Hastily, you run to the rails and look down. When the first sailors reach the quarterdeck, you gather your courage and jump into the sea.
[Hero] puts his/her weight against the bars of the hatch which flies open and slams on to the deck with a loud bang. You calmly climb up on deck without anybody giving you a second look.
Do you:
Walk to the rails to jump overboard
Pass by the single sailor toward the ship’s stern
You reach the rails without attracting any attention. Mind you, when you climb across them, that does strike the crew as strange behavior. You ignore their shouts, though, and drop down into the water.
Slowly, and with your heads down, you approach the sailor. When you reach him, though, he notices that you are strangers.
Do you:
Continue your flight to the side of the ship
Quiet the sailor
The yell and cry leave no doubt that other crew members have noticed you as well. You start running and leap over the rails into the sea before they can reach you.
The man’s surprise allows [Hero] to strike him down with a single blow. Of course, with that blow worthy of a prize fighter, [Hero] has drawn the attention of the rest of the crew. They come running, and you doubt very much that it’s just to admire [Hero]’s muscles.
Do you:
[Hero] puts his/her weight against the bars of the hatch which flies open and slams on to the deck with a loud bang. You calmly climb up on deck, but you’re out of luck. The sailors immediately recognize you as strangers on board. There’s a tremendous yell and cry, and a single crewman between the masts turns your way.
What are you going to do now?
[Hero] puts his/her weight against the bars of the hatch and carefully slides it aside. You climb up on deck and sneak up on the single sailor without anyone noticing you. When [Hero] is standing right behind the man, he turns around and gives, a startled look.
Do you want to:
[Hero] puts his/her weight against the bars of the hatch and carefully slides it aside. You climb up on deck and sneak up on the single sailor. Unfortunately,[Hero] trips over a belaying pin. The sailor hears the commotion and turns around.
Do you want to:
The water engulfs you completely. It is freezing. You won’t be able to stay afloat for very long. When you break the surface again, you see the ship’s lifeboat which is being pulled along behind the vessel.
The plunge down into the icy waters revives [Hero].
[Hero]’s load is so heavy that it is pulling, down.
Which items will [Hero] throw away to avoid drowning?
[Hero] is still unable to stay above the surface. [Hero] keeps swallowing water.
Which other items will [Hero] throw away to avoid drowning?
By now, [Hero] barely manages to come to the surface, desperately gasping for air.
What other items will [Hero] throw away to avoid drowning?
[Hero] doesn’t come up again. [Hero] has drowned.
[Hero]’s body is going to sink to the ocean floor with - entire load.
Which items do you want to take off [Hero] while you are still able to do so?
[Hero]’s body is still too heavy. You have some trouble getting at his/her load.
Which items do you want to relieve, of?
[Hero]’s corpse is still too heavy. You have quite a few problems reaching his/her load.
Do you want to take off % entire load?
[Hero]’s body sinks to the depths.
[Hero]’s petrified body is so heavy, [Hero] sinks to the sea floor.
The ship’s boat is coming straight toward you. You can reach it with just a few strokes.
[Hero] thumps his/her head on the boat’s hull. You fail to get a grip on it.
[Hero] is the first to reach the boat. But [Hero] fails to climb aboard and slips back down into the water.[Hero] is a somewhat better swimmer, and![Hero] reaches the row boat, grabs the cable securing it to the ship, and draws!his-/herself up onboard.
[Hero] reaches the row boat, grabs the cable securing it to the ship, and draws!his-/herself aboard.
You see the ship’s hull pass before you. The vessel’s stern is coming closer. Sailors are looking down over the rails as the ship’s tide grabs you and forces you below the surface.
If you want to reach the ship’s boat, you’ll have to move quickly.
Unfortunately, your swimming skills are insufficient, and the boat passes by out of your reach.
Hastily, [Hero] cuts the towline, and the boat slows down. Suddenly, a crossbow bolt hits the wooden hull. Some of the sailors aboard ship are standing at the rails with their weapons at the ready… using you for target practice.
[Hero] places the oars into the holes and starts rowing to increase the distance from the ship. [Hero] is so absorbed with his efforts that [Hero] doesn’t even notice the crossbow bolt nicking 1_ arm. However, the one that hits his/her shoulder flings, head-first into the sea.
Quickly, [Hero] cuts the towline, and the boat slows down. Then, suddenly, a crossbow bolt hits the wooden hull. A number of sailors aboard the ship are standing at the rails, practicing their weapon skills on you. Hastily, [Hero] helps the others onboard, suppressing the pain from a bolt that nicked 1_ arm.
[Hero] puts the oars into the holes and starts rowing to increase the distance from the ship. Most of the crossbow bolts disappear into the waves, but a few of them do hit their targets.
One bolt hits [Hero]’s back with such a force that it throws, into the water. With a concerted effort, you manage to pull, back onboard.
One of the bolts hits [Hero]’s back with such a force that it throws, into the sea.
Just in time and barely before [Hero] loses consciousness, you manage to pull, out of the water.
Your attempts to avoid the crossbow bolts make the boat shake so much that [Hero] falls overboard. Working as a team, you manage to pull, back onboard.
You manage to get out of reach of the ship’s weapons, giving you a chance to catch your breaths.
However, to your considerable horror, the ship doesn’t continue along its old course, but starts to turn around after you! You start rowing as fast as you can, but it doesn’t take long for you to realize you can’t possibly escape.
Finally, the ship reachs you. You are pulled back onboard and tied.
You manage to get out of reach of the ship’s weapons, giving you a chance to catch your breaths.
Then, you start rowing again to get back to the mainland.
You’ve been rowing for several hours now without getting appreciably closer to the coast. Fortunately, you’ve found some emergency rations onboard the boat plus some drinking water which should last you awhile.
The freezing salt water has thoroughly soaked your clothes, and you’re quite happy to pulling on the oars hoping you’ll warm up.
One look at your equipment shows that a lot of your herbs have been ruined by the sea water. [Hero] throws them away.
Sometime during the night, you row into Riva harbor. Your arrival draws no attention.
Sometime during the night you row into the harbor of Riva. Your arrival draws no attention. Yann says good-bye to you and goes his own way.
There are so many sailors on board, you cannot see any details of the sailors’ auras.
