The man who opens the door is wearing a bailiff’s uniform:
You? How dare you… - Get off. I’ll pretend I didn’t see you.
…and with that, the door slams shut!
A man in a bailiff’s uniform opens the door:
Yes?
Could you please give us some information about the town?
We’re investigating the old watchtower at the harbor again. That must be the hundredth time someone’s seen a ghost there. So far, none of our investigations has ever turned up anything.
Do you think the Holberkians might be behind the orc uprising?
No, actually you might call the Holberkians model citizens: calm, industrious, and modest! Most of the people who claim the Holberkians are selling us out to the orcs shouldn’t be throwing stones, really. You know, glass houses and so on.
Do you know the rat-catcher?
Yes, well, it would probably be an exaggeration to claim I know him, with him busy in the sewers all day. I just know he’s doing a fine job.
Do you think there are monsters underground?
No. I’ve been down in the sewers myself quite often, and believe me, there aren’t even rats down there.
Can you tell us something about the guild and the tradesmaster?
Just lately, the judge had some of that lot thrown into jail, but somehow the others managed to spring them. But don’t you worry, we’ll deal with them sooner or later.
Do you know Tarik?
Hmm, yes! A shady character that. Supposedly, he’s spying for the judge, but I don’t trust that. - I’ve had this job for a long time, and I’ve had to deal with that Tarik often enough before his abrupt conversion!
Could you tell us something about the judge then?
He’s keeping the guild busy. You daren’t give that scum a moment’s rest. I know, some people say, Bosper Jarnug is arbitrary in his arresting people, but let me tell you: Unless we give them hard stick, that guild’ll be the ruin of us.
The Twelve keep you!
I’ll have to throw you out now! The best!
