A bit ahead, you see the blue surface of a small pond glint in the sunlight. But something is wrong here, and after a few paces, you know what it is: it’s humming. It is insects! Horseflies of enormous size, and obviously starving, attack you at first sight, and there seems to be an inexhaustible supply of them. Do you

* or wait to see what happens?
The smoke has some effect, but it isn’t total. Thus, you are not only somewhat out of breath when they finally give up chasing you and leave you alone, you are also thoroughly stung.
They sting through your clothes and crawl inside your armor. They sting your arms, your legs, your faces, and if you don’t look out, they even sting your tongues. When they finally let up, you’re all looking like walking crumb cakes.
