Armor

The various types or armor presented here are tailored to human size. There are, however, also dwarf-sized and goblin-sized sets. These would weigh somewhat less, but since carrying capacity is not a factor in TDE Mobile adventures, this will not figure into play. We have refrained from adding helmets and armor enhancements, since this would bring us beyond the scope of the game.

The purpose of armor is to soak up some of the damage inflicted by an opponent's successful hit; see Armor Rating (AR).

However, armor also encumbers the person wearing it. Thus, all types of armor have a second numerical value besides AR: Encumbrance (EC).

Your hero may own more than one set of armor, but may never wear more than one.

The Structural value (SV) decreases with every damage an armor must take, it's . If it drops to Zero, the AR value is reduced by One. For every remaining AR value the Structural value is set to 50 again. You may want to look out for an armorer henceforth to get your armor repaired. The values in brackets show the entirely Structural value of an armor until it is absolutely worn.

Amazone Armor
Only used by amazones. A bronze cuirass without shoulders. Skirt is typically made of leather stripes.

Bronze Cuirass
Outdated trunk protection made from bronze, padded with felt on the inside; its shape resembles that of a leather cuirass; almost exclusively reserved for parades and show combat.

Chain Mail Shirt
This is the cover term for all tightly-woven wire ring meshes; they offer good protection and are easy to wear, but are also heavy. Chain shirts have short sleeves down to the elbows.

Chain Mantle
Chain-mesh mantle falling down to the calves, with slits at the front and the back to enable riding; full-sleeved, sometimes already fitted with chain gloves.

Chain Vest
Shortest and most basic form of chain mail; has no sleeves at all and only protects down to the waist; thus, often worn beneath a thin leather shirt for discreet protection.

Cloth Armor
Found almost exclusively on the Cyclops Islands and in some of the southern city states, this archaic type of armor is made of several layers of cotton; the outermost layer is often brightly embroidered or adorned with braiding.

Cuirass
Breastplate which roughly follows the form of the chest, made of massive steel held in place by two crossed leather straps; especially favored by light cavalry and infantry.

Five-Layered Cuirass
Consists of overlapping, thin metal plates sandwiched between layers of soft leather; looks a lot like a heavy leather vest and is popular with merchants.

Garethian Plate
This is a heavy but somewhat flexible type of armor for foot soldiers. It is constructed entirely of overlapping pieces of plate.

Iron Cloak
Three-layered mantle falling down to the knees; favored by merchants as well as more unsavory elements of society due to its inconspicuous looks.

Decorative and expensive set or armor made from the fireproofed leather of the swamp lizards of southern Aventuria; often brightly colored.

Kuslikian Lamellar
Outdated traditional armor of the Old Empire, only found in military parades nowadays; consists of overlapping metal strips fitted to leather straps.

Leather Cuirass
This is a set of armor fashioned after the shape of the human body, with reinforcing shoulder pads; essentially, this is hardened leather armor, created by boiling multi-layered leather in hot wax (cuir boulli); it is light, tough, and cheap, making it rather popular.

Similar to the standard chain mail shirt, but reaching down to the thighs and full-sleeved, sometimes already fitted with chain gloves.

Mammuton Mail
Very rare leather armor with round disks of mammuton, the tusks of the mammuton of Northern Aventuria. It is told that Elven armorer use a magician procedure to give the ivory a supernatural consistency.

Maraskanian Wood Cuirass
Consists of overlapping plates and lamellars of a very light-weight hard wood; moisture-sensitive, and because of this (and to repel the multitude of Maraskanian poisonous critters) often brightly enameled; usually covers the upper body and also has protection for shoulders, upper arms, and thighs, of similar make; needs to be maintained regularly, lest it starts to decay, losing its stability.

Mirror Mail
This type of armor is typical of Tulamidyan potentates. It consists of very fine chain mesh with integrated or layered pieces of plate that glitter like many small mirrors (hence, the name; such sets of armor are usually richly decorated). Warriors from the Middenrealm often refer to this type of armor derogatorily as “bastard plate.”

Normal Clothes
Winter or related fur clothing, full-leather wilderness clothes, leather jackets worn over street clothes, and various types of brocade or silk festive clothing (as long as it has many layers of linings) fall into this category.

Shields

A shield improves your Parry Value. Since combatants usually no longer use their weapons to parry but rely on their shields instead, the shield's PA Weapon Modifier is added directly to your hero's Base Parry Value, ignoring any points of TP assigned to the respective weapon type's Talent Prowess. But a high Weapon Parry Value gives a small bonus of +1 by >= PA >= 15, +2 by >= PA 18, or +3 by PA >= 21. Your hero may get additional bonus points on Parry Value by taking the Off-hand or Shield Fighting I and II Combat Abilities.

However, shields usually lower Attack Value and/or Initiative, since they take away from a combatant's agility.

Great Leather Shield
This is a larger version of the simple leather shield, its framework usually resembling an oval or a teardrop, constructed especially for use from horseback; also used on foot by some steppe peoples.

This is made of several layers of wood and leather glued together; it is usually painted in the bearer’s colors.

Leather Shield
This is a round wooden frame covered in several layers of tough leather (sometimes also rawhide or fur); this type of shield is popular with horse people (such as orks or Novadi).

Reinforced wooden shield
This shield resembles an escutcheon, an octagon, or is simply round. It is made of wooden boards glued together and reinforced with iron bands around the edges. iron bands or rivets cover the front side; its back is covered in felt.

Thorwalian Shield
This is a large, wooden round shield with iron edges and an iron hump in its center; as is the Thorwalian style, such shields are often painted with colorful ornaments.

Wooden Shield
This type of shield usually resembles a coat-of-arms; it consists of wooden boards glued together crosswise, and is covered in leather on the edges as well as on the front.

Parrying Weapons

Off-hand Fighting is necessary to be able to use any Parrying Weapon. The Parrying weapon's PA Weapon Modifier is added directly to your hero's Base Parry Value. The AT Weapon Modifier is added to AT-value of the Parrying Weapon instead to the main weapon by using a shield. (But currently Parrying Weapons can not be used for attacks yet. This may be a feature added in the future).

In contrast to shields the PA-Value of the main weapon (including the combat type's Talent Prowess) is used. This sum is modified with Off-hand Fighting only by -4, with Parrying Fighting I by -1, and with Parrying Fighting II by +2.

Although the usage of a Parrying Weapon without the special ability of Parrying Fighting II and without a positive PA-Modifier of the Parrying Weapon will bring disadvantages to the PA-value, there is the advantage that the main weapon will not take damage by a failed Break Test but will affect the Parrying Weapon.

Buckler
This is a small fist shield made of wood and/or leather; often, a buckler is simply a semi-sphere with a thin edge. Two-Handed Swords and Two-Handed Blunt Weapons cannot be parried.

Metal Buckler
Fist shield made of steel, usually a flat-cupped dome with an edge the width of a hero's hand; on the inside, it is covered in leather or felt. Two-Handed Blunt Weapons cannot be parried.

This is a stiff armored glove, covering the first down to the elbow; where the fist is clenched, it sports an sharp thorn.
